Notes from New Orleans Saints win against Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The New Orleans Saints win on Sunday improved the New Orleans record to 5-2 and is only half a game behind the Buccaneers in the NFC South Divisional Race. New Orleans will have an opportunity to take first place against Atlanta this coming Sunday, November 7th as the Buccaneers have a bye.

It’s the first time the Saints have defeated the reigning Super Bowl champion since the 2018 season when they beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the regular season and postseason.

The win improves their previous regular season record against the Buccaneers to 38:21 and gives them their sixth consecutive regular season win, which goes back to a 28:14 win at Raymond James Stadium on December 9, 2018, the she was tied for the longest winning streak of the current regular season against an opponent of the current winning streak against Chicago (September 18, 2011-present).

The win improves coach Sean Payton’s regular season record against Tampa Bay to 19-10.

The win gave Payton a 7-1 regular season record against Buccaneer’s coach Bruce Arians.

With the win on Sunday, Payton has 157 career wins (regular season and postseason combined) in 21st place with Mike Tomlin from Pittsburgh. Seattle’s Pete Carroll is the coach ahead of Payton and Tomlin in 20th place with 159 career wins.

By scoring on Sunday, the Saints currently have a run of 311 regular season games without being excluded, and dated a 26-20 win in Tampa Bay on September 6, 2002 at Raymond James Stadium, the longest running Series in the NFL.

Quarterback Jameis Winston, who was the Buccaneers’ first overall selection in 2015 and played for them from 2015-19, made his first career start against his former team on Sunday before leaving the game with a knee injury. Winston completed 6-out-of-10 passes for 56 yards with a touchdown, a pass rating of 108.8, and carried 40 yards four times. Trevor Siemian replaced Winston in the second quarter, completing 16 of 29 passes for 159 yards and one touchdown. Siemian’s last regular season game action took place on September 16, 2019 as a member of the New York Jets.

Wide receiver Kevin White, activated from the practice team for that game, led the team in receiving yards with a 38-yard catch, his first reception since the 2018 season as a member of the Chicago Bears.

Wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith scored his first touchdown of the season on a 16-yard connection from Winston in the first quarter.

Linebacker Demario Davis has made over 1,050 stops in his career after scoring five (three solo) tackles on Sunday.

Safety PJ Williams sealed the win with a 40-yard interception for a touchdown and extended New Orleans’ lead to 36:27. It was Williams’ second career touchdown return for an interception, the first coming three years and two days to the October 28, 2018 date on Sunday Night Football in Minnesota.

After an afternoon of two tackles, a sack for a six-yard loss, and a forced fumble restored by defensive tackle David Onyemata, the defensive end has Cameron Jordan 96.5 career sacks, ranking 43rd with Warren Sapp are in the NFL record books. With his sack, Jordan is the 15th player in NFL history to record 15 sacks against two teams (15 against Buccaneers, 21 against Falcons).

Running back Alvin Kamara stormed 19 times for 61 yards and a score. He caught four passes for 15 yards. 

With 1.0 sacks today, defender Tanoh Kpassagnon has reached his career high of four this season. (2019 with Kansas City).

Defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson had a 26-yard interception return.

Receiver / returner Deonte Harris ran a reverse for a 22-yard win, was tied with three grabs for 35 yards for the team lead in the receiving, returned a punt for 12 yards and got two kickoffs for 69 yards (34.5 avg. ) for 138. back all-purpose yards.

Punter Blake Gillikin hit three times for 158 yards with a 52.7 gross punt average, a 48.0 net, and a career-length 63 yard punt.

Miami soccer alum Travis Homer returns an onside kick to a touchdown with Seattle

Miami Football alum Travis Homer, who is in his third year in the NFL, returned an onside kick from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a touchdown in the Seattle Seahawks’ 31-7 win on Sunday. Homer has become a special team ace in Seattle with five tackles this season. On Sunday, Homer was present in offense and special teams.

Homer had four carries for nine yards, a reception for three yards, and two tackles on Sunday. Homer’s kickoff return TD came after Jaguar’s rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw a nine-yard TD pass to Jamal Agnew at 1:49 to reduce the Seattle lead to 24-7. Homer iced the game six seconds later.

Sunday was the first kick-return Homer had that season. Homer returned 17 kicks for 400 yards in the first two years of his career. Sunday’s touchdown was the second in Homer’s career. Homer scored the first TD of his career when he returned to Hard Rock Stadium last season when the Seahawks defeated the Dolphins.

Seattle ended a three-game losing streak with the win. The Seahawks won their first game that season with Gino Smith as a starter. Smith became the starter when Russell Wilson dislocated his finger against the Los Angeles Rams on October 7th. Homer had his best game of the season against Pittsburgh on October 17th.

Homer had a reception for 27 yards and two carries for 27 yards when Seattle lost 23-20 to the Steelers. Homer was a great special team player for Miami prior to his NFL career. In three seasons with the Hurricanes, Homer had 22 tackles and two forced fumbles. Homer had rushed over 900 yards in 2017 and 2018.

Homer ended his career in Miami with 2,400 yards on 19th. After Homer left Miami, DeeJay Dallas followed him as starting RB and they are now teammates in Seattle. Dallas had one carry for six yards and the other Seattle kickoff return on Sunday for 21 yards. Seattle is playing in Green Bay next Sunday.

The historic Gainesville Church offers cemetery tours in honor of All Saints Day

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – With All Saints Day tomorrow, a Gainesville church honored the deceased by giving tours of the cemetery.

The Kanapaha Presbyterian Church hosted the tours.

All Saints’ Day is a day to commemorate those who have passed away in the community.

A church leader said that a large part of the day is learning about the history of the cemetery.

“People can learn about local history, but we also want to help people understand why preserving these historic cemeteries is so important,” said Karen Kirkman, Church elder.

Visitors could read information about some of the saints buried there and see photos as they walked through the cemetery.

Unity of Tallahassee holds the first service since the fire

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (WTXL) – A place that has always been a welcome haven for those seeking peace, now only rubble from a fire earlier this week.

The Unity of Tallahassee Church held a healing service for its ward today, the first service since a fire on Tuesday.

Pastor Bill Williams said today’s focus is on healing and advancement.

This includes staying on course with previous mission work plans. The Church says that every Christmas they help families with urgent needs – something that continues this year …

“We managed to be together in this place,” said Williams. “Since the building burned down, but what we gained from it was not touched upon, which we can use for further development.”

Thousands are strolling down closed Central Avenue in St. Pete

Witches rollerbladed down Central Avenue in St. Petersburg. A Batman rolled by on a scooter. A dinosaur has been pedaling a bicycle. But not a single car was in sight.

On Sunday, Central Avenue in St. Petersburg was closed to traffic for a Halloween celebration called Halloween on Central. From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., approximately two miles on Central Avenue was car free.

The mood was bright when thousands, many in costumes, from the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street up and down 31st Street. The walkable route was packed with activities, from costume contests to trick or treating to a roller disco.

Vendors lined the streets, many handing out candy for trick or treating. People poured from bars and restaurants. Others stopped to watch live performances such as glass blowing or dancing in amazement.

Andrew Lundin, dressed up as Blippi, a popular children’s entertainment character, in a bright orange hat and suspenders, arrived with his family, including his two-year-old son Ethan, dressed from head to toe as a green dinosaur.

“We’ll never get that opportunity,” said Lundin. “There are so many great places in Central, but there is always so much going on.”

Lundin’s family walked from their home to the event. They had only been there a few minutes before meeting neighbors.

Traci Lundin, 35, says she wants to see more events like this one that bring the community together. It’s like a huge block party, she said.

The event is a collaboration between the City of St. Petersburg, the Grand Central District, Car-Free St. Pete, the Edge District and Open Streets St. Pete.

Donna O’Quinn, a volunteer on the St. Pete Car Free Committee, said the turnout was wonderful.

“This is a big event that we are working towards,” said O’Quinn. “This is something that we are very happy about.”

Strangers stopped in the open street for a photo of a whimsical costume.

Joan, 57, and Kevin DiMaggio, 64, were only able to walk a few meters before being stopped for a photo.

The two were dressed as Moderna and Pfizer vaccines in costumes that were made from scratch in a matter of days.

Other stars of the event were the pups that made their way through Central, many in their own costumes.

Reese, a three-year-old Chihuahua from Saint Petersburg, was disguised as a “dog gate,” said owner Sean Quinonez.

On the side of his costume, Reese strutted a ribbon for first place for a racing competition.

Quinonez, 30, hopes to see more of these events in St. Petersburg.

On Twitter, Mayor Rick Kriseman described the event as a bucket list item.

Orlando man arrested for beating pregnant woman

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – An Orlando man is behind bars for beating up a pregnant woman.

Phildavien Lane, 41, was caught on camera slapping a pregnant woman three times in the face near Grace Marketplace, according to a report from Gainesville Police Department. The police assume that the woman is in a relationship with Lane.

He is charged with aggravated assault on a pregnant woman and is being held in Alachua County Detention Center.

The ACC announced the time and network for FSU Football vs. NC State

Community meets for the Halloween Spooktacular in Naples

Southwest Florida is celebrating Halloween this weekend. Down in Naples, dozens enjoyed the Halloween Spooktacular.

This event, along with many others, was canceled last year due to the pandemic. Now many families are happy that the event will take place again this year.

Many people came out in costume to enjoy Halloween Spooktacular along Fifth Avenue in Naples. For children and adults, Halloween is many people’s favorite time of year.

More than 200 companies at the event offered activities and sweets for everyone. Monica Kennow works with Collier County’s Remax Title Services. “I have candy for the children. Business cards and we just. We want to be out here for the kids in the families and just hand out sweets, ”she said.

Kennow told WINK News that she was glad that her booth was able to come back this year. Last year’s event was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

Martha and Manuela Vigil brought their family with them to celebrate Halloween. They say they have been before, but this year was special. “We were here years ago, but we didn’t come to Covid and we just have fun with everyone here and it’s beautiful. It’s nice to be outside without masks, ”said the Vigil family.

Others pondered the event’s potential in 2020. Eliza Randle and Erin Tarr were on Fifth Avenue today. “We had to miss it for a whole year and I feel like we slipped off vacation, but now that we have it again I’m happy about it,” they said.

The Minder family also came to enjoy Halloween Spooktacular. “We were pretty upset that it was canceled last year. Didn’t get a lot of trick-or-treaters in the house either, ”they said.

“I love to see all the cool costumes here. I’m just happy to be here and have fun with my friends, ”said Tarr and Randle.

The Vigil family said they were “having fun”.

Unlike in previous years, the street was not open to pedestrians. Traffic was allowed to go down Fifth Avenue South, however. The organizers of this event say this decision was made in order to cut down the event.

The Gainesville gun buyback on Saturday brings in about 80 guns

Another gun buyback is planned before the end of the year, and organizers may also want to plan to receive a larger number of gift cards.

A Saturday event was scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but so many people traded guns for gift cards that it ended after 90 minutes, said Darry Lloyd, chief investigator for the eighth district prosecutor’s office.

“We were supported from the start,” said Lloyd. “People ask, ‘How can you safely destroy a weapon?’ The city of Gainesville says, ‘Give it to us and we’ll take care of it.’ “

Approximately 80 guns of all sizes and types, from a toy-like .22 caliber to an AR-15 style weapon, were included. The guns are sawn, shredded, or torn down in a similar manner.

The buyback at Mount Moriah Baptist Church on Williston Road was sponsored by the Attorney General, Gainesville Police Department, Save Our City, and the Big Daddy Unlimited gun business.

Big Daddy owner Tony McKnight gave away safes for individual guns and gun locks.

“For us, it’s a charitable gun ownership service,” McKnight said.

The buyback is part of a community strategy to curb gun violence, which has increased in recent years.

Another part will be the use of trained “violence interrupters” to quell the retaliatory shots that occur in feuds between neighborhood gangs.

GPD chief Tony Jones said on Saturday that details of the program are still being worked out.

A number of the shootings this year took place between opposing groups who opened fire at parties, parking lots and other locations.

Young people and spectators were killed and wounded by the gun violence.

“Gun buyback in and of itself won’t alleviate the gun problem, but it is part of an overall strategy that research has shown to be effective,” said Jones.

Buffalo Bills 26, Miami Dolphins 11: Quick Summary and Notes

The Buffalo Bills survived a terrible horror against their division rivals and left Goodbye Week with a 26-11 win over the Miami Dolphins. It was an inconsistent game for the Bills, who misfired a lot in the first half, but kept the score tight in the first half and showed a victorious performance in the second half.

Fortunately for the Bills, a botched game led to a fumble that Micah Hyde picked up and blocked all points.

The Bills straightened the ship after half time. Miami came with three threes-and-outs on the first three possession of the ball in the second half. The Bills offensive had its own three and out, but finally found its rhythm on the next trip. The spark plug was Cole Beasley, who kept finding openings for quick catches. At one point, Allen targeted Beasley five times in six games. That success helped Allen loosen up and resulted in a touchdown pass to Gabriel Davis that put the Bills back in the lead.

After Miami’s punt, the Bills had another strong drive. Again, Beasley was the star with two catches for 31 yards. On 2nd and 10th of Miami 19, the Dolphins attempted a cover-0 flash, but Allen read it and threaded Stefon Diggs the needle for a touchdown. After going into halftime with an ugly 3-3 draw, the Bills were now 17-3 ahead and feeling much better.

Two points behind in the fourth quarter, the Dolphins were unwilling to turn and die. Tagovailoa had his best drive of the day, with a 40-yard pass for Mike Gesicki as a highlight. Two games later, he buried his head and dug into the end zone for the touchdown. A successful two-point conversion reduced the lead to 17-11.

The Bills then uncorked a classic vintage of clock-killing with a 14-play, 59-yard drive that ate six minutes of the clock for the remaining fourth quarter. Forcing Miami to use up every time out, they ended up with a field goal that increased their lead to two goals, 20-11.

Miami, forced into desperate mode, needed big games to make a comeback, and that is exactly what the Bills had been hoping for. Jordan Poyer timed a Tagovailoa pass perfectly and picked it up until he ran back to Miami 11 with a naked bootleg, running into the end zone for his third touchdown of the day. The Bills attempted a two-point conversion for #analytics, but the snap wasn’t handled properly and Buffalo had to settle for the 26-11 lead. Miami took possession but had to run the clock.

The Bills got the ship upright before goodbye after a disappointing loss to the Titans, and 5-2 they’re back in the right range of AFC sowing. They hope to be able to build a new winning streak against the Jaguars from next week.

Injury report

• Halfway through the third quarter, Cole Beasley needed help from the training staff after it was tackled. Maybe he was just out of breath as this was his fifth catch in a row on the trip. He came back and played the rest of the game.
• A few games later, Zack Moss seemed upset after a run and preferred his right arm as he jogged off the field. He was out about a quarter but returned to the game in the fourth quarter.
• Jon Feliciano suffered some sort of lower body injury at the end of the game. It wasn’t clear what it was, but it kept him from the last couple of games.

Fast hits

• It took the Dolphins 95 games and 82 minutes to score points against the Bills, reflecting their week 17 win last season. Buffalo ruled Miami out in their first meeting today and held a shutout through the middle of the second quarter today.
• Another streak ended: Buffalo’s NFL record streak of 15 games with a lead at halftime ended in a 3-3 draw. It’s time to look up the NFL record for “don’t lose” at halftime.
• And another streak that came to an end – after 128 offensive games, the Dolphins finally scored a touchdown against the Bills, their first since last year.
• Buffalo’s special teams: If it’s good, it’s really good. And when it’s bad, it’s really bad. Congratulations to Tyler Bass for scoring a 57-yard field goal, and no praise for Matt Haack (19-yard shanked punt) or Isaiah McKenzie (muffed punt near the end zone, luckily restored as a touchback).
• Do you think the Bills will reconsider their decision to replace three players (Boettger, Feliciano and Williams) instead of one player (Spencer Brown) on offense today?
• The Bills missed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for an onside kick after taking the 10-3 lead. Miami was called to a 15-yard penalty that set the Bills’ kicking unit in midfield. You could have attempted a short kick with very little risk of field position. Instead, they opted for a pop fly near the end zone.
• A great day for Cole Beasley, who walked 110 yards for the sixth time in his career. He also counted ten catches for the fourth time. Allen took aim at him five times for four catches on the team’s first touchdown drive and used it to add some rhythm on the offensive.
• Great job by Tre’Davious White who was a shutdown corner practically all day. He broke off two passports.
• Ed Oliver also had a stellar game on defense, with a TFL and multiple QB prints.
• Josh Allen must have listened to the statheads this week as he made sure he turned 28. This is what connects him the most with Cam Newton in the first 50 games of a QB.
• The Bills were dramatically behind in possession time at halftime, but were able to regain the lead at the end of the game.
• Another great day for the Buffalo security duo. Both players had turnover – Micah Hyde a fumble recovery and Jordan Poyer an interception.

Next week

The Bills will travel to Florida to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars, currently 1-5, began battling the Seattle Seahawks at 4:05 p.m. this afternoon.

One person killed in a plane crash in Gadsden County

UPDATE: The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a death following a plane crash on Sunday.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A small plane crashed into a wooded area in rural Gadsden County on Sunday, the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office announced.

A GCSO spokesman confirmed the crash but was unable to provide any information about possible injuries.

The crash reportedly occurred near Glen Julia and Atwater Road in Western Gadsden Counties. Initial reports of the incident were received before 1:30 p.m.

This is a developing story. WCTV has a reporter on the way to the crime scene.

Dead body of missing UNG student found

Authorities are looking for a missing University of North Georgia student whose car was found near Woody Gap.

Lucas Baxter, 18, was last seen on the school campus in Dahlonega on Friday, October 22nd.

The university said Baxter’s family were “concerned about him,” and the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office has requested information to help locate him.

Baxter is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs about 145 pounds. He has blue eyes and brown hair.

The sheriff’s office said Baxter could wear round glasses. When Baxter went missing, he wore a tie-dye shirt with a woven bag chain, a gray striped hoodie, and a black backpack.

In a contemporary Miami home with furniture that doubles as art – Robb Report

The green work of art in the living room is a piece of painted glass by Kevin Harman.

When an active young New York City family moved to a 7,838-square-foot waterfront property in Miami, they trusted Allen Saunders Design with some clear priorities for their newly built residence. They wanted comfort, functionality and “a timelessly modern aesthetic” with contemporary Balinese-inspired architecture, says Saunders. It is therefore not surprising that the entrance foyer – the main artery of the house for both residents and visitors – is the manifestation of all these wishes.

Creating an entrance area with a mixture of organic materials and muted tones is not without risk, emphasizes Saunders. “The combination of several surface materials in different colors, textures and patterns within one entrance area could prove to be disastrous,” he says. “The room could easily become extremely complicated, visually cluttered and overwhelming to the eye,” he adds. “Our selection was made methodically and with the intention of achieving the calm balance desired by our client and our design team.”

The chandelier in the foyer was made by Irish artisan Niamh Barry. As was customary, it took over a year to make.

Entertainment rooms were another priority. The entire house that Saunders designed from the ground up has an indoor and outdoor feel, especially the living room with glass walls that look out onto the terrace. Saunders brought some Jorge Zalszupin lounge chairs into the room to give it a more tropical feel. “The room doesn’t have many walls because there is a lot of glass,” he says. “So we had to make works of art that were real pieces of furniture.” In addition to the Zalszupin chairs, a Rosanna coffee table made of brass by Erwan Boulloud – one of only eight worldwide – and Lindsey Adelman Knotty lamps are among other collectibles that give an artistic flair .

The dining room is in the same room and is separated by a glass fireplace perched on a piece of reclaimed wood from an old Seattle naval warehouse. “Not that you need a fireplace in Florida, but they liked the idea of ​​having that glow,” says Saunders. “If you’re entertaining in the evening, you can turn it on.”

The kitchen was another important place. With four ovens, three dishwashers, three sinks, and wine fridges, it’s an ideal place to prepare food for a dinner party or family gathering. Saunders added warmth to the room by wrapping the hood in 10-inch oak planks – the same material used for the upstairs floors – and using a petrified wood from India for the island.

It’s a property that Saunders designed to grow with the family. While the children are now small, in a few years they may outgrow certain rooms. For example, the playroom on the first floor can be converted into a bar that opens onto the lawn. There’s space for an outdoor sculpture garden, and the kids get older and spend less time outside. Above all, the house should be easy to care for, warm and inviting. “They didn’t want anything that felt cold,” adds the designer. “They didn’t want to feel like they were living in a museum.”

Tallahassee’s literary power couple tries to reinforce poetry, to demystify it

Two artists. Two highly excited creatives. Two spirited writers whose bulging egos often lead to accidents in the house.

Well, we don’t know where these people live, but they certainly wouldn’t be friends with wife and husband, Barbara Hamby and David Kirby, two amazing writing talents who are some of the most hospitable, funniest, easy-going, and relatable people a Tallahasseean from could affect all walks of life.

With 32 volumes of poetry, essays, reviews and even works for children and now a new textbook for his biography, Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of English from FSU, David Kirby, will have two new books in Midtown Reader at 7. bring out November 4th at o’clock.

“Help Me, Information” is a book of his exuberant poems, and “The Knowledge, Where Poems Come From and How to Write Them” is a 440-page tome that draws the wisdom of Kirby’s over 52-year career as a teacher of the arts and how to involve the muse.

So we know Kirby was busy. And sitting next to him at a table under the centuries-old oak that hugs her gabled brick house like a massive and perhaps to be protected lover, Barbara Hamby flips through her newly published volume of poetry “Holoholo”, a collection of odes (don’t worry, odes are funny or touching to read and not at all intimidating) which, as she says, functions as a kind of ancient conversation where the question is asked, “What’s going on here?”

It means “in life”. How can it be beautiful and terrible at the same time, a mysterious dance between life and death? And Hamby, much like Kirby, does it in a style that is talkative, talkative, stream-of-consciousness-like at the same time, taught like anything, and that gets you down with a mind-stopping nugget to take away.

“The poetry shop is always open”

Hamby, Senior Lecturer / Distinguished University Scholar at FSU and Guggenheim Fellow, has written her own nine books of poems, essays and short stories and published them in the New Yorker and Paris Review, among others. A novel is currently with an agent in New York.

Even though it’s only 11 a.m. and the two have apparently recently finished their first cup of coffee and the slayer Patsy the Cat persistently stands up for a scratch, the couple can still discuss their poems. its emergence, Italy in particular, and maybe 60 or 70 other factoids that go in and out of their conversations. 1st Annual Breast Cancer Education Ride at Gainesville Harley Davidson

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Gainesville Harley Davidson today hosted its first annual Breast Cancer Awareness Ride.

“Fo Sho Jewels”, a group of female drivers, put the event together.

The entire proceeds will go to the organization “Blossoming Butterfly” and “Fo Sho Jewels”.

Blossoming Butterfly offers mental, physical and financial help to breast cancer patients.

“My friend, who is also the founder of Blossoming Butterfly, was battling breast cancer and I went through all of this with her breast cancer,” said Lala Bryant, vice president of Fo Sho Jewels.

Bryant said the effects of breast cancer on so many people close to her motivated her to start this fundraiser.

She said she hoped the fundraiser gets bigger every year.

Phillips takes 100th victory as the Cardinals sweep Miami, Ohio

Ball State Women’s Volleyball (22-3, 12-1 MAC) kept its unbeaten home record intact on Saturday against Miami, Ohio (6-17, 4-9 MAC), beating the Redhawks 25-15, 25-19, respectively. 25-13.

The win improved the Cardinals’ record to 9-0 at home and extended their winning streak to 12. Sweeping Miami also earned head coach Kelli Miller Phillips her 100th career win as head coach.

“Well every win feels great, so this is a good start,” said Phillips. “To be honest, I didn’t know that [was] where we are. I just told these guys that I thank them. My staff, all players, they are the ones who are out there and deserve it. Very grateful to each and every one of these guys. ”

The junior outside hitter Natalie Mitchem was instrumental in the victory, she scored 15 kills without attacking errors and finished the match with a hit rate of 0.714.

“She had a hot hand from the start,” said Phillips. “Play like Mitch can play. She wants to be an attacker. She wants to be someone who will give her the ball when we need this murder. She keeps proving that she can be that person, and tonight [was] no difference.”

Mitchem scored double-digit kills for the 15th time this season, saying that Ball State’s mentality helps keep players pushing.

“I have a feeling that it just comes out of a desire to win,” said Mitchem. “I feel like we are a very even team and that helps us hold our own against these difficult teams.”

Freshman setter Megan Wielonski led the Cardinals with 37 assists, while junior defensive specialist Maggie Huber had a team high with 12 digs and junior middle blocker Marie Plitt led in blocks of five.

As the Cardinals overtake the Redhawks, they have five more Mid-American Conference (MAC) regular season games to play. Wielonski said it was crucial to end the season well.

“The next five games are just as important as they were last weekend,” said Wielonski. “Just keep our way of thinking [how] we were, just keep playing with ourselves and be ourselves. ”

Towards the end of the game, defensive specialist Kendall Seimet made her Cardinals debut, which Phillips thought deserved.

“Kendall has been so great in training the past few weeks,” said Phillips. “I just had the feeling that she deserved the opportunity to get in there. She played with all her heart and helps us so much in the training hall to prepare for games like this. I felt that she deserved the opportunity and I was glad to get her there. “
