More than five months after a man in southwest Miami-Dade was ridden home from work and killed on a bike, police said they had arrested the driver.
Peter Garcia, 26, was arrested for leaving the site of a crash in which 34-year-old Jose Piedra Perez was arrested on Jan.
Police said Garcia was behind the wheel of a 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 when he came across Perez’s bike at around 1:40 a.m. on Sunset Drive on Southwest 109th Avenue

Perez was thrown on the hood of the car and fell on the lane as the Mercedes fled the scene, police said.
The Miami-Dade Fire Department responded, pronouncing Perez dead at the scene.
Later that day, the owner of the car went to police and said she was a passenger at the time of the accident and begged Garcia to return to the scene, but he refused, according to an arrest report.
Cutler Bay’s Garcia and his lawyer turned in on Wednesday, the report said. He was put in jail.
Friends said Perez worked in the kitchen of a Don Burrito restaurant and would bike to and from work.
