Another day, another tough three-set win for Marin Cilic in Russia.

A day after pulling past Karen Khachanov, the former world number 3 battled third-placed Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the St. Petersburg Open.

“Today was a difficult game mentally, very different from yesterday,” said Cilic in his interview on the pitch. “During the game I was up and down a lot and felt like I didn’t have a good rhythm. But I had the feeling that I was constantly creating opportunities and that I just had to stay mentally in the game. “

The Croat, who triumphed in St. Petersburg in 2011, will next meet the top seeded Andrey Rublev or the Dutch qualifier Botic van de Zandschulp.
