MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The city of Miami Beach could have a new mayor soon. Four first-time candidates are competing for their vote along with Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber, who is pushing for his third term.
“I’m running for mayor because I’m fed up with the way the administration is letting our city deteriorate and not understanding how to control crime,” said Jean Marie Echemendia, a Miami-born realtor who is running for mayor.

She is against the current city guides who are pushing for a last call at 2 a.m.
“For me, residents are number one, not tourism and not development,” she said.
Echemendia said she will work to beautify the community and spend city funds on important projects that benefit the people of Miami Beach.
“Then people will have more respect for our community. You come here and see the sidewalks filthy with trash everywhere, they are also an app to throw more trash on the floor. It’s just not right, ”she explained.
Gus Manessis wants more cases to be prosecuted and our laws enforced. He told CBS4’s Ashley Dyer he would meet with local judges to come up with a plan.
“We can have a nice partnership where we all work together and not have them throw away all the hard work … and our police risk their lives to arrest a criminal and then they get kicked out,” said Manessis.
He had great success working with the City of Fort Lauderdale and White Plains to build a business district.
“We ended up opening about 100 small businesses in our business district,” said Manessis, who also wants to keep the buildings in Miami Beach.
“We have to protect this Art Deco,” he said.
Carlos Enrique Gutierrez is a property manager who wants to be a voice of the Hispanic people in government.
“I feel that there is not enough support or voices and representation for the Spanish-speaking community,” Gutierrez said.
He describes himself as a Cuban activist and said he would stand up for what is right if he is elected.

Gutierrez said: “I am the most honest person I have ever met. I’m not in anyone’s pocket and I pay attention to the community as a whole. “
Ronnie Eith is a businessman running for mayor’s office.
“Whatever I’ve done, I’ll find a way to be successful and I’ll find out quickly,” said Eith.
He is running for mayor to lobby, pushing for more uniformed police and more law enforcement.
“It’s all about proactive police policy – that’s my main concern. If we take care of it, everything else will be fine, ”said Eith.
Eith wants to change the culture on the beach to attract a different type of tourist.
“I’m only doing this because I really, really, really care about Miami Beach,” he said.
Unlike all of his opponents, Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber is pushing for a drastic change in South Beach’s entertainment district, with bars and clubs closing at 2 a.m.
“Our city has essentially created a tough, all-night drinking party district that has been attracting a really messy crowd for the past decade or more,” Gelber said.
During his tenure as mayor, Gelber worked to beautify the city by adding more than five new parks and upgrading the existing ones.
“I think art and culture is something that I’ve promoted in ways that we’ve never had before,” said Gelber.
He is working on several development projects as well as raising roads and changing our pumping system.
“I want this place to be as beautiful and special as it can be and I will work every day to keep it that way. The best version of our city is what a mayor should achieve, ”he said.
