The NBA had an exciting start to its 75th anniversary season, and one team that has been exciting to watch is the Miami Heat. They continue their mission to return to the NBA finals and win the fourth franchise title.

So far they haven’t disappointed. They started the season 4-1 with their only loss coming from an overtime fight in a game Kyle Lowry didn’t play.

Last season did not go as planned for the Heat as they were swept in the first round. In the off-season, Pat Riley got to work right away, making all the moves necessary to get her in a better position to win it all.

So far, the off-season acquisitions have had a huge impact on the Heat’s success, which translates into a win. Here are the top three areas where the Miami Heat has seen drastic improvements over last season.

1. Tempo

The Miami Heat had one of the slowest paces in the NBA last year. Despite having a lot of fast players and one of the fastest centers in Bam Adebayo, they couldn’t get the ball across the pitch as quickly as other teams because they lacked the playmaker with the ability to break quickly.

That year all changed, and thanks to Kyle Lowry. Lowry is a gifted point guard who can either run with the ball in hand or play the ball accurately across the entire field.

He’s done both for the heat so far. With all the defensive stops they got, the Heats went hard for the quick break.

This puts them in second place in the NBA in terms of both fast break points per game and points off ballings. Lowry’s ability to pick up the pace is contagious.

Even when he’s not on the ground, his very presence inspires other players to push the ball the way he does. It’s worth noting that playing faster does not directly correlate with winnings.

However, considering how well the Heat went on the Fastbreak, they should keep working on it. So far, however, Miami has and also worth noting that the pace has led to victories.
