According to Tallahassee Police, a teenager was killed in an exchange of fire on Friday night.
The boy, whose name was not immediately disclosed, was in an apartment in the university courtyard with a group of people just before 8:30 p.m. when they started passing a gun, TPD spokeswoman Alicia Turner said.
Some time later, a young girl shot the boy.
Police arriving at the scene took him to a nearby hospital, where he later died, according to Turner.
He was 17.
The girl was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center, Turner added. She is charged with manslaughter. The police did not disclose the name of the arrested because she is a minor.
This case was closed by arrest, according to Turner, and the Democrat has requested the police report.
TPD didn’t release an incident alert on Friday night, as it usually does when someone is injured or killed in a shootout. Turner declined to comment on why the department did not issue a warning.
According to a Democratic gun violence analysis, this marks the 15th death in at least 68 shootings in Tallahassee since January 1.
