Midtown restaurant Zoёs Kitchen will be closed and converted into Cava Mezze Grill, a Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant.
Here’s the catch: it can take months – even years.
Currently, the Cava Group, which Zoës acquired in 2018 as part of a multi-million dollar deal, is in the process of flipping its 250-plus Zoës Kitchen locations.
Todd Broadway, a general manager of the Midtown restaurant, said Florida’s remodeling is beginning in Jacksonville and “it may take a while” for Cava Mezze Grill to make it to Tallahassee.
“To be honest, I haven’t heard a word about our store,” he said. “If we were to close for renovations, I would know.”
More restaurant news:
If the change is finally made, the store will be closed for weeks, Broadway added.
Zoës – known for its falafel, hummus starters, pitas, and green lentil soup – has been on Thomasville Road 1817 since 2013.
On the flip side, Cava, which has a similar feel to Chipotle with its conveyor belt-like system and openly modern furniture, serves a limited but well-curated menu of falafel, pitas, and bowls.
Its locations span the country with more than 50 restaurants in states like Virginia, New York, California, Colorado, and Texas.
Cava started out in Maryland in 2011 and has opened over 50 stores in a decade. It acquired Zoës and began making its own sauces, which are sold in Whole Foods Markets in the US and UK
Broadway said there will likely be a post on Facebook at Facebook.com/ZoesKitchenTallahassee when an announcement is made.
