Braselton Mayor’s Race Preview: Hardy Johnson vs. Curt Ward

Braselton Mayor's Race Preview: Hardy Johnson vs. Curt Ward

Ward said he went door to door with his concerns and “built a network of friends.”

Johnson retired after 47 years in the building materials business and then began building his resume in Braselton. He has been involved with the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Foundation, Boy Scouts, and the Braselton Downtown Development Authority.

“I believe that if you take a leadership role, I have what it takes to be able and learn to see the challenges … and understand the opportunities,” he said.

“We are an attractive, attractive community with big promises … and it takes experience to see what options there are and how to prevent dangers from breaking in and ruining a good situation.”

A major priority for Johnson is supporting public safety, including increasing the number of police officers by 50% and “making sure officers have the tools and training they need to keep our safety”.

For Ward, the priorities vary depending on the urban area.

In West Braselton, which is largely in Hall County, there is a major need for open space and a major concern is the large number of existing or planned rental properties.

In contrast, East Braselton’s vision is to “stay agricultural and peaceful and have easy LifePath access to other local destinations,” says Ward on his campaign website.

LifePath is a system of 10 foot wide paths that allows pedestrians, golf cart drivers, and cyclists to travel between businesses and neighborhoods.
