Injuries obviously played a huge role in this game as the Bucs had no key contributors on either side of the ball and lost more during the competition.

Jason Pierre-Paul was out with multiple injuries and his presence was sorely missed by a pass rush that was absent for most of the game. Will Gholston cleared Tampa Bay’s only sack of the game, and it came in the fourth quarter after the game got out of hand. Even without Sean Murphy-Bunting, the Bucs lost another starting corner when Jamel Dean left the game with a knee injury in the first half and never returned.

Rob Gronkowski sustained a rib injury from a devastating hit, but the post-game x-rays were negative. Still, it seemed to hinder him for the rest of the game.

Given how confused they were, the Bucs could hardly afford the self-inflicted mistakes and missed opportunities they experienced during the game. Dean dropped a gift of a tip drill interception in the first quarter, the Bucs were later unable to recover a forced fumble in the first half, and in critical situations they carried out several penalties. Coverage skips, missed blocks, dropped passports, and the like were littered throughout the performance.

The Bucs are an elite team in full strength and when they don’t beat themselves. You couldn’t tick any of those boxes on Sunday, and the Rams are too good a team to beat in this scenario.
