The FSU’s 2022 recruitment class remains in the top 10 despite the 0-4 start

The FSU's 2022 recruitment class remains in the top 10 despite the 0-4 start

Suffice it to say, Florida state football season didn’t get off to as well as anyone expected.

While the Seminoles were not expected to fight for the ACC title this season, it was definitely not expected to be 0-4 for the first time in nearly 50 years.

While this start understandably embittered a large part of the FSU fan base around head coach Mike Norvell, at least for the time being, a very important group of people was not shaken by the poor start of the Seminoles.

Despite the FSU’s 0-4 record, she has not lost anyone from her recruitment class in 2022 since the start of the season – which according to the 247Sports Composite rankings as 10.

“I think it’s just the bond we have with the coaches and with each other,” FSU three-star offensive line signatory Kanaya Charlton told Democrats when asked why the group has remained united so far.

“Because each of us started getting involved, we all got more and more people into the little group chat that we had to commit to and you have to stay engaged no matter what.

“No matter how bad the team is doing right now – because I know it’s 0-4 and had one of the worst defeats in the history of the program – but no matter how bad it is, we’ll still be committed and be with them Team no matter what. “

Norvell and his staff did a spectacular job building the Seminoles 2022 recruiting class during the off-season. It peaked in the top 5 recruitment rankings and, despite the FSU’s struggles on the field so far this season, still ranks in the top ten nationally.

With over two months to go until the early signing period starts in December, these players still have plenty of time to rethink their decisions. Norvell knows some of them could.

While the FSU starts with 0-4, its 2022 recruitment class is currently the 10th best in the country.

But for those completely caged, a list of some of the most talented FSU commits Norvell says all about the kind of impact these recruits could have.

“I’m looking for guys who want to be part of this process too. Guys who want to be successful, guys who want to be challenged, guys who are ready to step on and off,” Norvell said on Monday.

“You will have to defend: ‘Well why are you going there?’ Because it suits them best. It’s an opportunity where they will be pushed, they will develop, they will have the opportunity to play in one of the greatest places in the country with a wonderful following that cares …

“I’m excited about the guys we’re recruiting because I’m excited about the guys who say yes. Then when adversity strikes and you’ve lost a few games, do you still want to? The ones who stand up and get out, these are the guys you can guarantee will be part of the change in a positive way. “

That fiery response from Norvell was part of a nearly five-minute response when asked at his weekly press conference what he had to say to the recruits given the current state of the program.

In many ways, this monologue sums up what made Norvell and his staff so successful on the recruiting path, even though the results have not yet appeared in the field.

“That’s him. One thing about him, he’s not going to gloss over anything. That’s what recruits, the guys we have, that’s what they like,” said David Johnson, FSU coach and recruiting coordinator.

“They know one thing about him. He’s going to be authentic. We’re looking for guys who want to come in and make a difference. We’re looking for players from day one who can come in and help us. We know what kind of situation,” We’re about to we don’t hide anything. It is what it is. The greatest thing about us is that we live in visions, not in circumstances. It is what it is and we will move forward. “

It also works so far in favor of the Seminoles that their most outward commits are among their most talented.

Five-Star Defensive Back Commit Travis Hunter – either number 1 or number 2 of overall recruitment in Class 2022 depending on the recruiting service – has never wavered since his signing to the Seminoles in March 2020.

On an Instagram livestream following the loss of the Seminoles in Wake Forest, Hunter said, “Yes, I’m locked up. I’m not going anywhere, brother. Don’t be fooled by the guys. I am committed stay committed. “

Hunter recently said on Instagram: “It doesn’t matter if we go 0-10, I’m a nole.”

FSU’s quarterback commit for 2022, four-star AJ Duffy, also ranks 82nd in the top 100 of the 2022 class rankings.

Just last week, Duffy posted a picture of him in an FSU uniform on his Instagram during one of his visits to Tallahassee. The caption read “Home”.

Charlton admits he was convinced that he was making the right decision to continue to deliver on his commitment.

“It helps a lot to see that everyone stays focused because they are great recruits in the nation,” said Charlton.

“When we see the big recruits focused on the ultimate goal and remain committed to Florida State, it just shows us that if they can focus (on the FSU), with all of the other recognitions and all of the others Offers that they can do. ” stay focused. We all want to play, and we all want to bring Florida State back to the winning culture it had before. “
