More than $ 17 million in federal COVID aid went to more than 100 restaurants in Tallahassee that applied for federal grants from the short-lived Restaurant Revitalization Fund.

Seven Hills Hospitality Group, the owner of local favorites Liberty Bar and Restaurant, El Cocinero, The Hawthorn, and Bar 1903, received the largest check for more than a million dollars, followed by Vale Food Company, Kiku Japanese Fusion, and the Village Inn.

The $ 28.6 billion RFF fund was created under President Joe Biden’s US $ 1.9 trillion rescue plan signed in March. Due to the high demand, it was quickly exhausted and the program ended in July.

The program provided grants to 101,000 restaurants nationwide – roughly a third of the 278,000 eligible applications the SBA received. The SBA received thousands more applications that were deemed ineligible.

The Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF) provided funding to help restaurants and other eligible businesses keep their doors open during the COVID-19 pandemic. It provided funding to restaurants to match their pandemic-related loss of revenue of up to $ 10 million per business and no more than $ 5 million per physical location. The recipients are not obliged to repay as long as the funds are used for eligible uses by March 11, 2023 at the latest.

• Paid sick leave
