Tampa Bay Lightning fans bring ‘Lucky Couch’ to the bar before Game 6

Tampa Bay Lightning fans bring 'Lucky Couch' to the bar before Game 6

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (WFLA) – Remember the Tampa Bay Lightning fan who received an unexpected visit from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office during the third game of the Stanley Cup Final last season?

Devon Garnett had yelled, “Shoot! Shoot! Shoot! ”His words were addressed to Lightning defense attorney Victor Hedman, but his neighbors thought they were overhearing a possible domestic argument.

Fortunately, when law enforcement officers arrived, they quickly realized there was a mix-up and the neighbor had misunderstood the tradition.

The Harlem Globetrotters want to join the NBA

Garnett and his two friends Ryan Van Schaick and Kyle Mullan have seen 15 Lightning playoff games together over the past two seasons. They gather in Mullan’s apartment and sit on his couch.

If you stand in front of the couch with the television behind it, you can see Mullan on the left, Garnett in the middle and Van Schaick on the right. They never change places and never miss a moment of the game because when they sit side by side on that couch the Lightning have a perfect 15-0 record.

“We have rituals that we do,” Garnett said, “sometimes you have to sit back, sometimes you have to sit up, so it’s a big deal. We make a ‘cheers!’ whenever they score and whenever the period starts. “

Now the story of “The Lucky Couch” took an interesting turn on Wednesday. Garnett had committed to hosting Trivia at the Whiskey Wings Sports Bar & Grill on Temple Terrace, and he knew he couldn’t travel from the bar to the couch in Valrico until Game 6 began.

Road Warriors: Lightning hopes for further success in away games against the New York Islanders

Van Schaick apparently saved the series against the New York Islanders with the following idea.

“I immediately threw the idea out,” explained Van Schaick. “Kyle has a pickup truck, so I’m here, not just volunteering to bring his couch to a bar, but also using his truck to take him there while he’s still working.”

Van Schaick admitted that he had to “nudge” Mullan to get him and his couch into the bar.

“A little encouragement and a little planning, and the next thing we thought about was how we could do that logistically,” said Van Schaick, “and the couch is in the middle of a bar for game 6.”

Lawsuit: Former Rays star Ben Zobrist says wife had affair with pastor; sued him for millions

Garnett, who is absolutely convinced of a Lightning victory, announced his plan for the Stanley Cup final.

“The Lightning don’t win when I go to playoff games. You’re 0-3 so that’s my thing. I have to end this streak somehow and I want to see the Stanley Cup final, “said Garnett,” so I’ll get in touch with the Lightning and hopefully they’ll let me bring the couch and watch the game. “

He may try his luck, but at this point “The Lucky Couch” is sitting in a bar assisting the Tampa Bay Lightning, so I think everything can be done from the comfort of the couch.
