TAMPA, FL – A federal jury found Sergio Antonio Hood, 36, of Tampa, guilty of possession of ammunition as a convicted felon, obstruction of justice, and attempted witness manipulation in connection with a 2019 shooting near Ybor City.
Hood faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison for ammunition and obstruction offenses and up to 20 years for attempted witness manipulation. His verdict is scheduled for September 9th.
According to evidence presented at the trial, on October 27, 2019, a week after meeting and starting a relationship with a woman, Hood showed up at her home near Ybor City and found her with a friend in one parked car sitting.
According to court records, Hood slipped his assault rifle through the open window, pointed it at the woman’s head, and fired. The bullet missed the woman and hit the other side of the car.
Hood was arrested the next day. At the time of filming, Hood was under government supervision. As a result, he was transferred to federal custody. In prison, Hood created a false alibi and asked a witness to make a false testimony at a federal court hearing.
He has multiple criminal records, including two federal convictions for possession of firearms as a convicted felon and three federal convictions for distributing controlled substances. Hood is also a registered sex offender on a previous conviction for lewd and lascivious insulting a minor.
