MANATEE COUNTY – Southwest Florida YMCA has entered into talks about a full merger with the YMCA of the Manatee County Family under an existing management contract after months of successful partnership.
The news is part of Y’s strategic plan and vision to expand the YMCA program across Southwest Florida.
The management agreement was originally entered into to provide an opportunity to establish a strategic partnership between the YMCAs.
YMCA partnership begins
Keith Farlow, chairman of the YMCA in Southwest Florida, said that since the beginning of this partnership, shared resources have enabled both Ys to increase reach and services through shared resources.
“Through outreach efforts and collaborations, the Southwest Florida YMCA has a proven track record of meeting the needs of the community through successful partnerships, and we plan to continue working with others to ensure that each community has a YMCA and its services are available to all Farlowlow said in a prepared statement. “Our recent management contract with the Manatee County Family YMCA is a great example of what we can achieve when we work together to meet the needs of our community.

“We are pleased to announce that we have entered into talks about a full merger with the Manatee County Family YMCA, and we couldn’t be more excited about the future of the YMCA and the community.”
In the same statement, Lisa Devito, chairwoman of the YMCA of the Manatee County family, agreed.
“The board of directors of the Manatee County Family YMCA couldn’t be happier with our management agreement with the Southwest Florida YMCA,” she said. “You have exceeded our expectations by far and made this transition seamless for our board of directors. We are very excited and hope to be fully merged by the end of this year. ”
The news follows the announcement of the association’s name change to YMCA of Southwest Florida and its expansion into northern Sarasota County.
“For more than 54 years, the Southwest Florida YMCA has been dedicated to empowering our communities with programs that promote individual potential,” said Gene T. Jones, president and chief executive officer, YMCA of Southwest Florida, in a statement. “We are excited that the Southwest Florida YMCA will expand and improve the YMCA services in six counties including Manatee and North Sarasota through multiple community partnerships, including the management agreement and the early merger with the Manatee County Family YMCA.”
