Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman and current Tampa Bay Sports Radio 95.3 WDAE Afternoon Ride presenter Ian Beckles takes the honor (maybe?) For Tom Brady’s arrival in Tampa Bay in 2020.
In a “halftime heat” segment on Friday afternoon where he and his co-host Jay Recher provide opinions on any topic that either needs to be discussed, Beckles said, “I don’t want to pat myself on the back, but I’m in “I don’t think I’ve ever gotten enough credit for being the first to mention the fact that Tom Brady would be a perfect fit in Tampa Bay.
“I’m not saying I’m the first to bring this up in the whole world, but I was the first I ever heard it say and no one else is going to say it, so it’s mine.”
Beckles then refers to a conversation he and his former co-host Ron Diaz (since retirement) had with ESPN personality Mike Greenberg in February 2020 in which Beckles brought up the idea of coming Brady to Tampa Bay. Beckles then said that Greenberg ran with it on his national program the next morning, and the idea took off from there.
“If anyone asks how the hell Tom Brady ended up in Tampa Bay in ten years, I hope your answer is that it all started with Ian Beckles on the Ron and Ian Show.”
