TAMPA, Florida – A team of 72 people made their way to Surfside from Tampa Bay Saturday morning, where they will help rescue those missing after a condo collapse.

The members, consisting of engineers and doctors, have received special operational training that focuses on rescuing collapsed structures, according to a press release. K-9 police teams are also among the crew members.

The state of Florida asked the team, officially called Task Force 3, to respond by noon on Saturday. It consists of Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, Tampa Fire Rescue, and St. Petersburg Fire Rescue.

159 people were missing on Saturday morning after the 12-story Champlain Towers South Condo collapsed early Thursday. At least four people were killed.

“The convoy includes 24 equipment vehicles for rescue and accommodation personnel, which enable the task force to be completely self-sufficient,” the press release said.

You will be supporting the effort at Surfside for the next seven days.

According to the Associated Press, Governor Ron DeSantis said a “definitive response” was needed to determine how the apartment collapsed.
