TCC has named Steven Outlaw as the new Executive Director of the Florida Public Safety Institute

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (TCC) – Tallahassee Community College has named Steven Outlaw as the next Executive Director of the Florida Public Safety Institute (FPSI).

Outlaw has over 30 years of law enforcement experience. He recently retired from the Tallahassee Police Department, where he served as the interim chief of police. As interim chief, Outlaw oversaw all facets of the police operations of the largest and most comprehensive police force in the region, managing a budget, overseeing hundreds of sworn members, building community relationships, and more.

“TCC has a long history of developing professional law enforcement and firefighter candidates and has strong partnerships with local public safety agencies,” said Outlaw. “Public safety professionals are the people who monitor, respond, and care for other people in need. It is exciting to support citizens in entering these professions. I am proud to continue the legacy of the institution. “

Outlaw began his career as a police officer as a police recruit and attended the college’s Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy. He later worked as an associate professor at the academy. His children also graduated from the TCC.

“Steve Outlaw’s significant law enforcement experience, solid educational background and community connections, leadership skills and integrity make him an ideal executive director of the institute,” said Jim Murdaugh, President of TCC. “I look forward to working with him to take FPSI to the next level.”

Outlaw succeeds EE Eunice, who began his career at TCC in 2000 and has held many roles, including campus police chief.

FPSI provides training for popular public safety professions in areas such as law enforcement, fire fighting, law enforcement, criminal justice, security, and telecommunications. The recruits and trainees are committed to their communities and strive to protect and serve them.
