That familiar red, white, and sticky candy cane is a Christmas tradition that Gregory Cohen, owner of the Lofty Pursuits restaurant and candy store, began on Saturday the 11. “
Twelve years ago Lofty Pursuits, 1355 Market St., formed a marching band to play at the annual market district celebration. At that time the brass band had fewer than 10 musicians. Now it has up to 40 musicians when it performs.

Not only was it the first year for the band, but it was also the first year for Lofty Pursuits’ candy cane making. A lot has happened to these candy canes since then. They were first featured in Smithsonian Magazine and recently in Wired Magazine.
People from all over the world enjoy this Tallahassee tradition and at the holiday event, locals can watch them live and in person as they are made.
The confectionery makers will perform (2 p.m. – 5 p.m.) and will be accompanied by A Tuba Christmas (3 p.m.), a brass band Christmas music group, and The Lofty Pursuits Marching Band (4 p.m.).
A real Victorian Santa Claus will be in attendance from 2pm to 5pm. According to the free tradition of this event, attendees can bring their cameras and take their own photos with Santa Claus.
