TALLAHASSEE, Florida (WTXL) – The Tallahassee Winterfest returned on Saturday and welcomed thousands to celebrate the holiday season.
Returning artists say they’re happy to be back. “I’ve been performing at this winter festival since 1995 before I lived in Tallahassee,” said musician Steve Sternberg. “Oh yeah, it’s just great that the city brought Winterfest back after it was canceled last year. It’s a great event.”
The visitors were also happy about their presence. “I think it’s really great that the musicians get the chance to play again,” says John Owens. “You had a hard time during that time because it’s a lot for people who can’t get together. It’s a really hard time for her. “
The event attracted several first-time celebrations, such as Harrison Prime. “Moved here to Tallahassee from Jacksonville to start all over,” explains the Army veteran. “And you know my fiancée, she’s pregnant and said let’s go out and have some fun. I was in Jacksonville last year so usually just hanging out with the family, had a good time, but now that we live here, we’ll probably be out here more often. “
Monica Cuyler was able to keep her family busy with the various activities. “We have walked through the winter wonderland planning to see the parade, enjoy some of the food vendors here, get a funnel cake, and enjoy the downtown celebrations,” she says.
And Shakteria Byrd of Tallahassee says her kids even got close to the Big Guy personally. “We came here for the Winter Festival for the activities, to get out of the house and do something. We sat on Santa’s lap and took photos. It was a great success. Lots of people are here and it’s nice. “
The excitement was even bigger this year than in previous years as the Winter Festival returned for the first time since 2019.
