NS. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – A Clearwater Marine Aquarium rescue team rescued a manatee that was struggling to survive in a canal in St. Petersburg Thursday afternoon.
The aquarium said the manatee was underweight, had a head wound from a watercraft, and suffered from lesions on the face and body, possibly due to the cold weather.

The team worked with Fish & Wildlife Conservation and ZooTampa to get the manatee out of the water and load the mammal onto a tarpaulin before carrying it onto the ambulance.
“With more than 1,000 manatee deaths in Florida this year, we are ready to respond in times of need to give them a second chance at life,” said a statement from the aquarium.
