Boutwell family pledges to raise funds for Holocaust education

In honor of his late wife, Jean, and her strong commitment to “speaking the truth with love and encouragement,” Tallahassee Area Business Leader Ken Boutwell and son Jeff and daughter Jennifer Patty have committed to donations of up to US $ 60,000 donated to HERC, the Holocaust Education Resource Council.

HERC’s mission provides educational guidance, support, and resources for educators teaching Holocaust history and educational programs for the entire community in a 16-county area of ​​northern Florida.

“A teacher’s daughter who was trained in early childhood education was a deeply compassionate, caring, and wise woman who never stopped learning. She knew the power of education to make our world a better place, ”said Boutwell when announcing the appropriate entry.

“As a lifelong learner, Jean has attended many courses and classes, including one with Rabbi Romberg at Temple Israel. She wanted to do everything in her power to raise awareness of the anti-Semitic roots of the Holocaust, so that the world would remember it for generations to come and our children and grandchildren would be saved from a similar tragedy. ”

Boutwell has been a mainstay of Tallahassee’s business community for decades. With his son Jeff, he co-founded Vineyard Capital Partners, a private equity investment firm with real estate and companies in nine states. He was also CEO of MGT of America, a national management consulting and research firm with offices in Florida, California, Washington, Texas, and Michigan. He was also a co-founder of Capital Health Plan and was Vice Chancellor of the State University System of Florida early in his career.

Boutwell noted that the Boutwell family’s pledge to provide $ 60,000 in contributions to HERC is aimed at engaging community leaders, businesses and organizations in the HERC mission.

“Educators have limited resources to teach our children about the Holocaust. HERC is helping to bridge the gap but needs more help, ”said Boutwell. “Our hope is that even more people will join us in making HERC a much larger organization that can reach middle and high school students at many other schools to help them not only get through the horrors of the Holocaust, but also through teaching him simple anti-Semitic comments and actions. ”

Funded primarily by private donors, the organization relies on community support to further its mission and social responsibility.

“Our greatest asset is every time we visit a classroom and see teachers implement curriculum guidelines and use the books and films that are distributed in the workshops. The children’s eyes show that we are “connected” and that our efforts are making a difference, ”said HERC Managing Director Barbara Goldstein, the daughter of Holocaust survivors.
