GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – The Hatchetbury, an ax throwing bar, held its first ever Guns Vs. Hoses charity tournament today.
The Alachua County Fire Department and Gainesville Police Department have teamed up to make this possible.
“It’s going to be a friendly competition, but it’s always cops versus firefighters. There is a long history of gun-on-hose tournaments and style competitions so we’re glad we were able to bring this to Alachua County, “said Brandon Starr, vice president of Alachua County Firefighters.
Each department puts together teams that compete against each other in a series tournament.
Starr said he hopes this shows the community how first responders come together on and off the job.
“In addition to serving as fire brigade, I have many family members in the police station and you know that we work very closely with them on a daily basis in our own community,” he said.
Many community members tried ax throwing for the first time.
All of the proceeds will go to families experiencing or affected by tragedy.
“Examples of some of the things we mentioned recently are firefighters who have suffered acute injuries or illnesses in their families during extended hospital stays, as well as people affected by home fires,” said Starr.
The Hatchetbury owner said while this was the first Guns Vs Hoses tournament she definitely hopes it won’t be the last.
