TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (WTXL) – Bartram Jackson, who served in the Vietnam War, was one of roughly 60 veterans who left Lake Ella for free on Saturday morning with a freshly cut Christmas tree.
“It makes me feel really good and makes me feel like someone out there is taking care of us,” said Jackson.
In its sixth year that Holidays for Heroes is handing out Christmas trees, wanted to do something special for veterans across Tallahassee.
“Just giving back to the people who were willing to give everything for us, it’s a great feeling, they show up and just appreciate it,” said Phillip Todd.
With Tallahassee still grappling with the effects of the pandemic, there is still a slight increase in the need for help, according to the Salvation Army.
This shows that even though Florida can reopen, there are still people in need of help.
“Last year during the pandemic, our numbers were extremely high. So the people who came were there to help them because when the Salvation Army is serving the people, we are serving them without discrimination,” Wildish said.
The Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club is also meeting the need this Christmas season.
The Buffalo Soldiers gave $ 100 to 20 children Saturday morning to buy some Christmas cheer.
A long time member of the club, Thunder Horse wanted to make sure they could help as many children as possible over Christmas who are part of the Boys & Girls Club and care system.
“We think we should take a leadership role in helping our children know we care, that we wish them a wonderful, happy, and very, very merry Christmas,” said Thunder Horse.
Organizations this holiday season that cater to the needs of veterans, families and children during this holiday season.
And Holidays for Heroes is handing out 20 Christmas trees to veterans in Perry at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning in the Save-A-Lot parking lot.
