Less than a week after Florida State Athletics Director David Coburn announced his impending resignation, the FSU is on the verge of appointing his successor.
As first reported by Sports Illustrated Sunday and confirmed to the Democrat by multiple sources, current Louisville AD Vince Tyra is a strong candidate to become the new head of the Seminoles’ athletics division.
It was first reported on Friday that Tyra was a surprise candidate for the FSU-AD job.

Louisville has scheduled a special Board of Trustees meeting for Monday at 5 p.m. to discuss personnel matters.
DHR International was involved in FSU’s search for a new AD after previously helping FSU with its coaching process, which ended with the hiring of Mike Norvell as its new football coach in December 2019.
Tyra, a native of Louisville, has been Vice President, Intercollegiate Athletics / Director of Athletics of Louisville since her interim acquisition in October 2017.
He was named permanent Louisville AD in March 2018.
Prior to joining Louisville, Tyra was an operational partner, starting in 2007, for Southfield Capital, a Greenwich, Connecticut-based private equity firm that invests in lower middle class companies.
Previously, he was also President of Retail and Activewear for Fruit of the Loom in Bowling Green, Ky.
Tyra could become FSU’s third AD in just over three years. He reportedly has a two-year contract.
Coburn took the position on an interim basis in August 2018 when Stan Wilcox left the NCAA.
Coburn said Wednesday he plans to retire by the end of the spring semester of 2022, unless the position is filled earlier.
