The Leon County government recently informed staff that regulations related to masks and vaccines are no longer enforced.
A note from Leon County’s Human Resources Director Candice Wilson said:
“Dear Leon County employee, with the passage of the new bills from the Special Session of the Florida Legislature, mandates related to masks, medical or religious shelter, and vaccinations will no longer be enforced. This means that employees who have been granted accommodation no longer have to comply with the clauses within the approved accommodation. “

The new bills referenced in the notice relate to bills passed during a special session and signed by Governor Ron DeSantis.
Fourteen county employees were laid off as a result of Leon County’s vaccine mandate announced in July by Leon County Administrator Vince Long.
In October, the Florida Department of Health (DOH) published a violation of the law relating to the ban on vaccination passports to the Leon County government, imposing fines totaling $ 3,570,000.
In response to the DOH fines, Administrator Long vowed to fight back. Long said, “There is a real disagreement about the applicability of the law and rule and the county will use any legal means available to enforce its rights if necessary.”
