A sought-after linebacker made his college signing live at CBS Sports HQ on Saturday when Wesley Bissainthe announced he was signing to Miami. Bissainthe chose the Hurricanes over Florida State and Florida.
Bissainthe is a four-star contender for Miami Central High School in Miami, Florida. He is ranked No. 188 overall prospect in class by the 247Sports Composite and is rated as No. 23 overall player in the Sunshine State.
“It’s the best position for me and where I can look after my family,” Bissainthe told 247Sports of his involvement in Miami. “I felt like a priority.”
Though he’s on the smaller end for a linebacker, Bissainthe’s versatility is one of his defining qualities as a player. Andrew Ivins, 247Sports Southeast’s recruiting analyst, compared him to former Miami and NFL linebacker Jermaine Grace, predicting that Bissainthe could one day be a round 4-7 NFL draft pick. Here is Ivins’ full review:
A new age linebacker who can play all three downs. Not only does it do its job on Friday evenings as a speed camera and gap filler, but has also proven to be quite useful in passport cover. Well tested on the lasers in the summer before the junior season, which makes sense given the overall speed of the game. Flies to soccer and usually comes on the scene with the intention of nailing someone. Agile feet enable him to bypass blocks and make stops. Seems most comfortable when asked to come downhill and corral ball carrier, but knows how to spin and run out of the slot with wide receivers / tight ends or stay out of the backfield with running backs. The ability to fill in gaps is undoubtedly a strength at this point in its development, but it needs to stop chasing and better end in one-on-one combat. Could also get a little more flexible and need to add some bulk, hoping not to be pushed to the next level. Produced both as a sophomore and junior before becoming a senior team leader in one of Miami-Dade’s most traditional programs. Numbers to settle in as an off-ball linebacker in a 3-4 or 4-3 look for the given size and frame (check-in at approximately 6-foot-1, 205 pounds). Should be able to make a contribution after a year or two on campus and have what it takes to lace up the tunnels on Sundays if everything fits together.
