The new year begins with a boost for three local nonprofits that received grants this week to complete the GiveTLH campaign sponsored by Tallahassee philanthropist and entrepreneur Rick Kearney’s Beatitude Foundation.
In September, nine local organizations were selected to receive a $ 1,000 grant for their mission. Three of them received enough community votes on Giving Tuesday to win the grand prizes. Reach One Youth, Born 2 Be a Man, and Beyond the Pantry were awarded $ 10,000, $ 5,000, and $ 2,500, respectively.

The impact of COVID-19 on local nonprofits has resulted in fundraising campaigns being canceled, fewer meetings taking place and services being re-offered. #GiveTLH was developed four years ago to increase funding for these groups, their volunteers, and their efforts by providing micro-scholarships to each group and encouraging Tallahassee residents to support their work with their own donations, at a time when that donation has declined across the country.
Over 5,000 votes were cast by readers, and Kearney announced the top three recipients in a video posted on social media. “Thank you to everyone who voted for these organizations and congratulations to all nine organizations that have been selected as recipients for the GiveTLH 2021 program. We hope their stories will help inspire you to keep finding ways to give back to our community this Christmas season, ”said Kearney.

Billy and Sandra Auguste, founders of the Reach One Youth Organization, have big plans for their $ 10,000 scholarship. “We are very grateful and humble to God for this great opportunity to continue training high-risk youth in more than just sports,” they shared. “We can continue to influence life through team building, character building, mentoring and much more.”
They have plans to expand academic and mental health services, establish an academic scholarship fund for senior graduates, and expand other program areas to support the vulnerable youth community they serve.
Born 2 Be a Man, a $ 5,000 scholarship recipient, is a volunteer organization providing mentoring programs for boys ages 4-14 in Quincy, Tallahassee and the surrounding area. “We are very grateful for the opportunity we have been given to participate in the GiveTLH scholarship program,” said founder Russell Harrison. “If we improve the lives of these young men, they will get the full benefit of this scholarship.”
Harrison will expand his travel program to help young men envision a degree or career they might otherwise not have access to, saying, “We’re going to change the narrative, whether one by one or by the dozen.”
The $ 2,500 receipt is Beyond the Pantry, which began as an informal collaboration between a group of friends in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic and has since grown into a full-fledged nonprofit working to maintain local pantry stocks to strengthen.
“The Beyond the Pantry team is honored and honored to learn that we have received a grant through the GiveTLH program,” said co-founders Emily Saras, Amy Thorn, Emily Bruno and Kirsten Mood. “This funding will work wonders to serve the most vulnerable members of the Tallahassee community in the months ahead.”
The year 2021 is drawing to a close and a new year is just around the corner. The future of Tallahassee’s most vulnerable is brighter thanks to the work of these and other organizations devoted to the well-being and success of all.
“We know that nobody can do it alone, it takes a village and a community to come together to see real change,” say Billy and Sandra Auguste. “Thank you for being our destiny helper. Together we will make a difference by reaching the youth, influencing life and inspiring great things for future generations. “
