MIAMI, Oklahoma – The city of Miami is hosting the first Route 66 Heritage Fest.
The Route 66 Heritage Festival in Miami hosts a range of events, from live music to food trucks, a car and bike show, and more. For the local band “Until Now” it is the opportunity to play for their biggest fans. Band member Joe Redden says, “To be honest, we’re blown away by it, we’ve been looking forward to it for about two months now, we’re preparing for it, we’re just super excited to be playing in a human this size and playing in one such a stage, so we’re super excited. “
The series of concerts includes eight groups, four Friday nights and four additional Saturdays as it pays tribute to the musical heritage of Ooklahoma. Redden says, “It’s great, it’s absolutely great, I couldn’t ask for anything better than this man, it’s really great, really excited for the car show, the bike show, all that stuff, I mean, nothing like that has happened yet in Miami for a long time and it’s really great to see how the community comes together. “
That musical legacy brought Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell to the festival so he could make an announcement about two of Mmiami’s most famous musicians. “Miami has a lot of great musicians who have made their way through the Miami, Oklahoma area, but the Gaines, part of Lynyrd Skynyrd, are inducted into our Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame tonight.”
Pinnell sees this as a great opportunity for the entire community. “When a city can play to its strengths, talking about the amazing Route 66, the American experience you can get here, along with promoting the Oklahoma Music Trail and all of its musical heritage, I think this is a winning combination that works.” Paying dividends for this city and making a lot of money for small business owners here. “
The festival continues tomorrow with more live music from 4:00 p.m.
