Husband and wife visit Miami at Hotel Brutally Beaten – NBC 6 South Florida

Husband and wife visit Miami at Hotel Brutally Beaten - NBC 6 South Florida

Justin Shapiro fights for justice for his customers after they were brutally assaulted at their hotel.

“This is an attack that you cannot recover from mentally or physically,” Shapiro said. “Security was nowhere to be found.”

Police say it happened on July 10th at the Rodeway Inn on NW 167th Street.

The husband and wife were visiting from New York.

“There is a knock on her door,” Shapiro said. “There’s an attacker in the hallway on the seventh floor.”

The police report says the suspect, Trayvon Smith, got inside.

“He pushed the door in when the door opened, slapped our customer in the face, choked him, went into his room and started beating him,” Shapiro said.

According to police, the victim’s wife goes back into the room after fetching towels from downstairs.

“The attacker suddenly turns his attention to her,” he said.

“Start beating her, dragging her down the hall, strangling her, biting her.”

At some point the elevator opens and Shapiro says the hotel staff get out, see the attack, but don’t help.

“Our customer is screaming for her life,” said Shapiro. “You’re not doing anything to intervene.”

According to police, the suspect is taking her to the second floor, where the attack continues.

“He hit her, he bit off a piece of her face, he forced her to have oral sex for several minutes under threat of death,” said the lawyer.

Shapiro says the police entered the room while the suspect was preparing to rape the female victim.

Smith faces kidnapping and sexual harassment charges, among other charges.

We asked the hotel for an explanation and haven’t heard from them.

Shapiro says he is filing a lawsuit against the hotel, their security company, and the suspect.

“You need a lot of change to make sure this doesn’t happen to the next person,” he said.

Shapiro says the woman suffered brain damage from banging her head on the floor.

The woman’s family has launched a GoFundme page.
