Why Choices Pregnancy Care Center wants to expand Gainesville location

Why Choices Pregnancy Care Center wants to expand Gainesville location

The organization plans to add two stories with a new entrance at the rear of the building and reconfigure the existing parking spaces, said Jessica Tullar, housing and special projects manager at Gainesville.

“The expansion will add office space, storage, and exam and waiting rooms,” she said in an email.

Changes to the building require approval from the city as the building on Green Street is considered historic property. Choices’ application is due to be submitted to the Gainesville Historic Preservation Commission on Monday, August 2nd.

The building was built as a residential home in the 1920s, with various major changes made over the years, including a two-story rear extension and fencing in the original porch, Tullar said.

The building “reflects the artisanal style and is mentioned in our resource overview as a ‘bungalow side gable’ house type,” she said.

Choices Pregnancy Care Center has been providing its services in Hall for 33 years and also operates a location in Flowery Branch.

When a woman comes to the pregnancy center for help, executive director Lee Koz said the first step is to have a pregnancy test followed by choosing an STD test. If the woman is pregnant, she will receive a free ultrasound at the center.

The center sees about 2,000 patients a year, Koz said.

He said he would like to see the $ 400,000 project completed in early 2022. The organization is raising money as part of the effort.
