TCC unveils a mural dedicated to student hard work during the pandemic

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) – Tallahassee Community College will unveil a new mural entitled “We RISE” on Tuesday, August 3 at 10:00 am on the Student Union Breezeway on the main campus.

TCC said the mural is designed to help restore the sense of community among students following the challenges posed during the pandemic.

“This work shows the lived experiences of our students during the pandemic,” said Dr. Gerald Jones, vice president, student affairs.

The images were from TCC students who were able to participate in the artwork through the art therapy initiative.

“After all the ups and downs of the pandemic, it was really nice and refreshing to be part of something good and uplifting,” said Shelly Allen, a TCC student. “We had the opportunity to submit our experiences with things that affected us during the pandemic prior to design, and the artists did an excellent job of incorporating those experiences into the finished project.”

The mural was designed by Street Art Tallahassee and is located in the east wing of the student union.

“It is a symbol of healing, well-being and overcoming obstacles,” said Whitney Heim, TCC professional advisor.

The fall semester starts on August 23rd.
