Covid-19 hospital stays have risen in southwest Florida while vaccinated people test positive but asymptomatic

There have been reports of vaccinated people who test positive for COVID but show little to no symptoms, which begs the question: Do vaccinated people carry this virus around and spread it to the unvaccinated?

According to the Centers for Disease Control, “There are studies showing that people who are fully vaccinated are less likely to spread the virus.”

However, Lee Health’s Chris Simoneau adds that it is still possible for these people to unwittingly spread the virus.

“You are seeing some groundbreaking cases where we are seeing some testing of vaccinated patients who become COVID positive, their results are much, much better. Your symptoms are much less severe, some are even asymptomatic, ”said Simoneau. “It is possible that they will shed the virus and help spread it to the community.”

Simoneau says about 95% of people currently hospitalized are unvaccinated, making community spread a greater and more dangerous risk. NCH ​​and Lee Health officials have reported that people in the hospital are now younger and sicker than they were in the past.

“The side effects or potential side effects of the vaccines are much less than the effects of COVID,” said Simoneau. “We’re seeing some really bad cases of COVID and some long-term effects of COVID. But we didn’t see any significant side effects from the vaccines. So we encourage people to get the vaccine because it is the best way to keep them healthy and safe. “
