Meet Nick Borlie, the Gainesville Parks and Rec

Meet Nick Borlie, the Gainesville Parks and Rec

Each week, Borlie teaches both privately and through Gainesville Parks and Recreation. His clientele includes a wide range, from 3 year olds to older adults.

With his lessons around town, said Borlie, he teaches groups of students; whereas the private option is one-to-one and a little more expensive. The teacher said the private lessons are also open to family members or friends who want to study together. He has given classes to children and their parents on several occasions.

Through his years as a skateboard instructor, Borlie said that what he enjoys most is seeing the joy in his students’ eyes when they make a new move.

“There is a new goal and new things to conquer every day,” he said. “It’s usually cool to witness that, the child’s first grind or their first real trick.”

For parents arguing about getting their kids enrolled for skateboarding lessons, Borlie encourages them to consider the benefits of the sport.
“It’s a perfect way for a child to interact with other children,” he said. “It’s a solo sport, but you make a lot of friends. And it really is a limitless thing, there is so much to learn. “
