TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Tallahassee police said they had arrested one man and confiscated 17 weapons after months of investigations.
Carlos A. Urena, 37, was arrested for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of a short-barreled rifle, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended driver’s license, and violating probation.
For six months, investigators from TPD’s General Narcotics Unit and Technical Operations Unit, as well as the US Attorney’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, gathered physical and electronic evidence about Urena.
A search of Urena’s house on the 1500s block of Coombs Drive found 13 pieces of artillery, ranging from AR rifles to pistols. According to the TPD, 11 of the weapons were identified as “ghost weapons,” meaning that they were assembled from individual parts purchased by the subject and therefore do not have traditional commercial serial numbers to track.
Methamphetamine and thousands of rounds of ammunition were also seized, according to the TPD. A search of the Urena store in 3400 block on Weems Road revealed that four other weapons and more methamphetamine were found.
