The latest job report shows that Leon County employed 149,517 people in June, 532 more than the previous month. The unemployment rate in June was 5.4%, compared to 4.5% last month. A year ago the unemployment rate was 8.8% in June 2020. In June 2019 the unemployment rate was 2.9%.
Due to the COVID pandemic, job comparisons 2020 are not as meaningful as comparisons with job data from 2019. Therefore, the Leon County Jobs Report provided below contains data for 2019.
In June 2021, 2,236 more people were employed than in June 2019, but around 15,300 more than in June 2020.
The number of people in employment – job seekers – was 157,984, 4,835 more than reported in June 2019.
The graph below shows Leon County’s monthly employment over the past 37 months, using a 12-month average trend line. The highlighted numbers refer to the employment level for the month of June back to 2018.
At the state level, 41,000 jobs were created in June compared to April 2021. The unemployment rate in June rose from 5.0% in May to 5.7%.
