Qatar Airways was recently named the best airline in the world in 2021 by AirlineRatings.com. According to the Australia-based Aviation Safety and Product Evaluation Agency, this is largely due to their “innovation, product and industry leadership, as well as their exceptional commitment to keeping the world’s critical long-haul air routes open during COVID-19. ”

The airline made its debut on July 20, 2021 at Miami International Airport with its FIFA World Cup 2022 livery in the USA. It was also the occasion for the airline to announce that it will now fly daily from Doha to Miami, operated by Boeing 777-300. Business class will now be exclusively QSuites. That means doors can be closed for privacy and certain middle seats can be combined into two- or four-seat configurations, which is especially helpful if you are traveling as a family.

Qatar Airways has been serving this route since June 2014 with popular onward flights – before the pandemic – to India, Thailand, Pakistan and Nepal, shares Eric Odone, Vice-President of Sales for Americas, with Forbes. Meanwhile, traffic has shifted from this route to the Maldives and South Africa – two of the airlines’ newest destinations – as well as Kenya and Tanzania.

Unlike most airlines, Qatar Airways has never stopped flying and this has allowed them to gradually adapt to the changes caused by Covid-19. “We have systematically ensured that everyone gets a mask, a pair of gloves and hand disinfectant wipes,” said Mr Odone. They also offer “Travel With Confidence” kits that include hand sanitizer, masks and gloves. “We were the first airline in the US to mandate masks. At the height of the pandemic, we provided face shields to passengers. The crews were in full PPE uniforms. We have high standards of hygiene.

How are you preparing for the 2022 FIFA World Cup? “Qatar didn’t reopen until July 12th,” said Mr. Ordone. “As for the country itself, the stadiums are actually finished – they look absolutely fantastic, lots of new hotels – the preparations never really stopped. For us at Qatar Airways, it is more about making a good estimate of the volume of travel, because there will be a mix of scheduled and charter flights, especially from the Latin American market. We are very happy about it.”
