Summary: Inter Miami CF 2, CF Montreal 1

Summary: Inter Miami CF 2, CF Montreal 1

Joaquin Torres had given Montréal the lead in the first half but Higuain struck twice in the second half to give Miami a much-needed first win since May 16 and only a third win of the season.

At the beginning, however, it looked like a seventh loss in eight games for the men of Phil Neville. Nick Marsman made a rebound after a cross from Mathieu Choinière in the 20th minute, which Joaquin Torres gladly used. The Argentine’s shot from just over six yards hit the back of the net and brought Miami on its heels.

However, Miami was pardoned with a 49th-minute penalty. Federico Higuain was knocked out in the penalty area and referee Victor Rivas called for a penalty, much to the shock of the entire Montréal team, which simulation claimed. Gonzalo Higuain hit the spot and scored the fraternal equalizer.

Miami made the comeback when Rudy Camacho gave the ball away in his own penalty area and Gonzalo Higuain gave his side a clear chance to lead his side in the 69th minute. The former Real Madrid striker rolled the ball off the edge of the box, but James Pantemis appeared to have made a spectacular save only when the ball flew off his palms and hit the net in agony.

Pantemis rehabilitated himself by extending a leg to defeat Robbie Robinson after the former MLS SuperDraft No. 1 aggregate slid through the gate. With their backs to the wall, Montréal had no more answers to Miami’s comeback performance and suffered a disappointing defeat when the DRV-PNK stadium cheered at the final whistle.
