Brooklyn classic Oddfellows Ice Cream Co. opens store in Tampa

Brooklyn classic Oddfellows Ice Cream Co. opens store in Tampa

Chorizo and caramel swirl ice cream, anyone?

Oddfellows Ice Cream Co. is there.

The popular Brooklyn-based company is bringing its signature collection of crazy flavors to Tampa this fall. Think of miso cherry, olive oil, chocotorta and passion fruit buttercake ice cream.

The 1,500 square meter store in Hyde Park Village will mark Oddfellows’ first location in the south. It joins six other storefronts in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Boston, and Korea.

“We made a name for ourselves with unconventional flavors,” says Oddfellows co-founder Mohan Kumar, who visits friends and family in Tampa on a regular basis. “And that’s what we’re bringing here. For the past five years I’ve seen the Tampa food scene explode. I love people. I love the atmosphere. “

Several pop-ups from Oddfellows will grace restaurants and cafes ahead of the opening, Kumar said. But the details remain under wraps.

His partner and James Bear Award nominee chef Sam Mason even cooks tampa-specific flavors with local restaurants. (For the 2019 launch in Boston, Mason created a basil chip offering alongside Fox & Knife, an Italian-inspired favorite.)

Oddfellows opened in 2013 after Kumar hired Sam Mason to make pretzel ice cream for his then pregnant wife. Since then, the store has exploded, attracting hungry customers with milkshakes and decorated banana splits. It also serves vegan flavors, infused tubs, wine, and beer.

At Hyde Park Village, an Oldfellows ball is the perfect dessert after dinner at Timpanos or Forbici, said Kumar.

Nicole Dee, the village manager, agrees.

“OddFellows’ twist on the traditional provides an unexpected experience with every visit,” she said in a statement. “From unconventional flavors and unique brand cooperations to unsurpassed design – our community is waiting for a treat!”

Kumar said more Florida stores may open in “cool cities” across the state in the future.

When it opens, the Tampa ice cream parlor will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. in the 718 S Village Circle.
