Grab an umbrella, Tampa Bay. High probability of rain this weekend

The residents here know that summer time means a lot of rain in Tampa Bay.

But this weekend won’t just be the typical afternoon showers that pop up in July. Instead, the National Weather Service says the region will have an up to 80 percent chance of rain on Sunday and Monday and a 60 to 70 percent chance on Saturday.

According to the weather service, the rain will not bring much recovery from the heat. Instead, there will be a high of 93 on Saturday and a high of 92 on Sunday. The lows for both days will be in the upper 70s.

While the high chances of rain can mean heavy showers at times, Tampa Bay residents won’t have to worry about “washout” this weekend, said Tony Hurt of the National Weather Service’s Ruskin office.

That’s because the rain this weekend is coming from a possible tropical cyclone off the east coast of Florida. With that disruption, Hurt said he anticipates the rain will sweep across Tampa Bay in ribbons, meaning the likelihood of storms will make up most of the weekend, but the rain won’t be constant.

The National Hurricane Center has given the disruption off the Florida coast a 30 percent chance of education in the next two days.

Even if it intensified in Tropical Storm Fred, Spectrum Bay News 9 meteorologist Mike Clay says spaghetti models for the system show it could move in any direction. These include a trail through the Sunshine State towards Tampa Bay, while others predict the system will head east into the open Atlantic.

For those looking to get outdoors this weekend, Hurt says it’s best to do so on Saturday morning. Most of the day’s showers won’t start until around 2 p.m., he estimated, but will last until evening.
