Tallahassee International Airport wins environmental award for latest solar system

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (WCTV) – Tallahassee International Airport received the FAC J. Bryan Cooper Environmental Award 2021 for its latest solar park development at the Florida Airports Council conference last week, the city of Tallahassee said in a press release.

The award recognizes a FAC member airport that promotes, implements, or implements environmental projects and programs that the city claims have a positive impact on the Florida Aviation System. Tallahassee’s newest solar facility, Solar Farm 2, added 330 acres to the existing 120 acre Solar Farm 1.

The two solar parks form the largest airport-based solar park in the world, stretching over 450 acres and generating more than 60 megawatts of clean energy per year, the city said.

The energy produced by the solar parks provides the city’s power grid with enough renewable energy to power the city’s urban buildings.
