The first 3D printed house from Florida comes to Tallahassee

The first 3D printed house from Florida comes to Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) – Something pretty cool is happening on Clay Street in the Greifenhöhen neighborhood.

Fredrik Wannius of Printed Farms, who supplies the machines for the 3D printed house, says this could be the future of residential and even commercial construction.

“Every week, every month, there are new improvements,” said Wannius.

The machine costs between $ 500,000 and $ 750,000 and can lay about two feet of wall per day.

And by the time it is assessed, this first home of its kind in the Sunshine State will cost around $ 175,000 to $ 200,000.

A step in the right direction when it comes to building affordable housing across the country.

“It’s certified affordable housing, so we’ll be working with our local nonprofits to help families find these homes,” said Kyndra Light, who runs Precision Building and Renovating LLC with her husband.

Light says they hope this method of building a home will be 25 percent cheaper.

A goal that they want to achieve within one to two years.

“We are very confident that we will get to this point with research and development,” said Light.

Viewers like Nicole Everett say they look forward to seeing more projects of this nature in the future.

“I think it’s great,” said Everett. “I’ve worked in affordable housing for many years and the thought that this could potentially be an affordable housing solution is just fantastic.”
