TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Potbelly hosted a roast pork Saturday night to raise money for Joe Winstead and his family as he battles stage four cancer.
With the Winsteads near the bar, Pot’s says they are giving all of the proceeds on his treatment to help calm the family during this troubled time.
As part of their brand, Potbelly’s host a roast pork for their customers every year, but when they found out that Winstead was battling stage four throat cancer, they wanted to show their support.
“Whether it’s small or big, they’ll always be there to talk to you,” said Albert Hansen, Pot’s communications director. “You know, hug, hold, feed, be empathetic, be kind, and when this happened to her and her family it was a breeze to see what we can do to help.”
“I think I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people, a better company. We’ve had our ups and downs here and there are just a lot of things we’ve seen, ”said Theresa Winstead, Joe’s wife.
The bar tries to help the family with work.
“Definitely affects you in several ways, not just physically and mentally, but financially,” said Ashleigh Connell, the Winstead’s daughter.
Hansen believes they will reach their $ 10,000 goal, but ultimately wants to reassure the family.
“The only big thing about whether we achieved the goals we wanted to achieve is that we were able to give them strength and love and kindness at a time when it really mattered,” said Hansen.
The struggle and support for the community is what keeps the Winsteads going.
“He’s been fighting it for months now and we’re so close to the end. But the love and support we have received from so many is just a miracle. “
Theresa said her husband would stop his chemotherapy just days after her birthday in August and said it was one of the best gifts ever.
