Tallahassee Community College Announces Academic Promotions

Calandra Stringer, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Tallahassee Community College, has announced several candidate promotions within the college.

Each deputy dean will take on new functions on Monday:

Tricia Rizza, Deputy Dean of the Faculty Initiatives. As a faculty member, Rizza has served on several committees for institutional initiatives, including High-Impact Practices, First-Year Experience and Eagle’s RISE Summer Academy.

Jennifer Russell, Deputy Dean of Health Professions. Russell previously served as the director of nursing programs. She is also a certified nurse. Care of patients in intensive, acute and subacute care.

Nick Vic, Deputy Dean for Communication and Humanities. Vick was previously the director of the Learning Commons and director of the Honors Program.

Summer Dusek, Deputy Dean of Social Sciences. Dusek was previously director of the Center for Professional Enrichment at TCC. She also taught psychology and academic achievement courses at college as an associate professor.

Angelina Kuleshova, Deputy Dean for Science and Mathematics. Kuleshova has served as Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Faculty Chair of the Senate, Co-Chair of the Early Alert Advisory Group, and Course Coordinator in Intermediate Algebra.

Ryan Preatto has been named Director of Student Services at Tallahassee Community College

TCC appoints Ryan Preatto as the new director of the Studentenwerk

Gerald Jones, TCC vice president of student affairs, has named Ryan Preatto as director of student services.

Preatto will oversee the counseling center, the Student Accessibility Service, the Student Emergency Aid and the Office of Student Life.

He is joining the TCC from McNeese State University.

Preatto received his associate degree from Delgado Community College. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a master’s degree in criminal justice from McNeese State University.

Preatto is a member of the Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA), the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (ACPA), and the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

TCC is hosting a ceremony for students earning GED diplomas

Tallahassee Community College is hosting a graduation ceremony on July 22nd at 6:00 p.m. for more than a dozen students who receive their GED diplomas. The ceremony will take place in the student union ballroom.

TCC offers courses that lead to financial services certifications

Tallahassee Community College’s Workforce Division offers courses to prepare students for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exams.

FSU doctoral student to study in France with a Chateubriand scholarship

A PhD student in biology from Florida State University received an international scholarship this fall to study coral reefs and parrotfish in France.

Marine ecologist Joshua Manning will use the Chateubriand grant to collaborate with Simon Benhamou, CNRS Research Director at the Center d’Ecologie Fonctionnelle et Evolutive, CEFE, the largest French research center for ecology and evolutionary ecology, in Montpellier, France.

The scholarship, established in 1981, is awarded by the French embassy to outstanding doctoral students from American universities and supports them in research in France and in collaboration with French scientists.

Manning actively shares his research in both public and academic settings.

Prior to joining FSU to work with Assistant Professor of Biological Science Sophie McCoy, Manning earned a bachelor’s degree in marine science from the University of Maine in 2013 and a master’s degree in biology from California State University Northridge in 2017.

His current research on coral reef ecology and the social behavior of Caribbean parrotfish on the small Caribbean island of Bonaire is carried out in collaboration with two interns in biological sciences from FSU and the American Academy for Underwater Sciences.

FAMU student honored for biological systems engineering

Melvin Jordan, a biological systems engineering student at Florida A&M University College of Agriculture and Food Sciences, was recently named Outstanding Student of the Year 2021 by the Florida Section of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE).

Jordan received the award during the organization’s meeting and awards banquet last month.

ASABE recognizes its outstanding student members as those who provide excellent academic performance and demonstrate social commitment by participating in local, regional or international activities and in leadership positions within the organization.

Jordan is currently President of FAMU’s ASABE Student Group and the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) student to become MP for ASABE’s Southeastern Regional Student Association.

Two FAMU students will receive a $ 5,000 Crème of Nature scholarship

Two Florida A&M University students are among the 20 recipients of HBCU’s Legacy to Leadership scholarship program from Crème of Nature.

Miles Armstrong, Xavier Hammond, and all HBCU students from across the United States are expected to receive a $ 5,000 scholarship for a total of $ 100,000 in funding from the Creme of Nature brand.

In addition, the winners will also receive Creme of Nature products and will be honored during the company’s virtual celebration “Legacy To Leadership”.
