Tallahassee Remembrance Project unveils new historical marker in memory of lynch victims

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (WTXL) – The Tallahassee Memorial Project today unveiled a new historic marker in Cascades Park.

It commemorates four African American men who were lynched in Tallahassee during the Jim Crow era.

Black History Alliance director Priscilla Hawkins said she came out today to remember the men and she also connected with hundreds of other community members who came for today’s engagement.

“I wanted to come out because I think it’s so important that this city in particular, where our state government sits, knows that there are people in this city who want it to get better,” said Hawkins. “I’m just excited about the project and the organizations that were involved.”

The Black History Alliance says they will now add the new marker to their Tallahassee Black History tours.
