Amazon is ready to ship its final mile station in Naples

Q: Do you know what’s going on at Beck and Bush in Naples? It’s a huge parking lot. Will it be used for employees in the new Amazon building?

ON: The fenced parking lot, which was completed in March on Bush Boulevard and Tollhouse Drive, while not exactly considered an employee parking lot, will be used to store delivery trucks for the new Amazon delivery station that will soon open nearby at 8760 Davis Blvd. will. in east Naples.

All of the 566 outdoor parking spaces on this new lot are 11 x 27 feet and large enough to store the longer vehicles from Amazon Logistics, the same day parcel delivery service for the national e-commerce giant. The vans are secured in the parking lot overnight and driven about half a mile to the delivery station on Davis Boulevard each morning to begin a shift.

To create the off-site parking lot, Collier County’s real estate records show that the 10+ acres of vacant industrial lots south of Alligator Alley were purchased for $ 4.3 million in June 2020. That’s the equivalent of $ 7,597.17 per parking space.

Seattle-based Amazon is obviously serious about delivering on its promise of fast delivery service for Prime customers’ exponentially growing online orders. The new delivery station here is one of hundreds that Amazon is planning across the country to fulfill its two-day delivery promise.

“We are pleased to be able to start operating our new delivery station this spring. This facility will improve the delivery experience and make deliveries faster and more efficient for customers in the Naples area, ”said Amazon company spokesman Owen Torres this week.

An Amazon Delivery sign was recently placed in the center of a building that was previously a much-maligned eyesore, a local development project built to specifications as a planned retail hub in Davis Crossing. By the time Amazon stepped in to enable its completion, the nearly 105,000-square-foot structure was stalled by the Great Recession, and its rusting steel frame towered over 18.8 acres on the southwest corner of Davis and Collier Boulevards for more than a decade on.

Pre-packed and addressed goods are received at this new Amazon station and forwarded by postcode for home delivery in the Naples region, often by an external logistics company. It is not intended to store or maintain inventory on site. Parcels come in from large fulfillment centers via semi-trailers that are unloaded from several bays at the east end of the warehouse, and then the parcels are sorted, loaded onto delivery trucks, and shipped.

The delivery station will allow Amazon Logistics to complement the company’s delivery capabilities and create hundreds of full-time and part-time jobs starting at $ 15 an hour, Torres said. Delivery stations also give entrepreneurs the ability to build their own business delivering Amazon packages, as well as the flexibility to independent contractors to be their own boss and create their own delivery schedule for Amazon Flex, he said.

In an ad published earlier this spring for a delivery point connection at its new Naples location, Amazon said its mission is to be “the most customer-centric company on earth.” Online postings were posted for a variety of positions this year, with most of the ads posted this month.

“In this active job, you sort parcels into delivery routes. In order to ensure that we meet the delivery times promised by the customer, the shift times will vary, ”said an advertisement for the employees at the delivery stations.

In an ad published last week by Amazon for an area manager of a warehouse team in Naples, the company notes that the workflow of its operation has three main components: first mile, where the product is stored and ready to order; Middle Mile, where the order is transported from a distribution or fulfillment center to a delivery facility; and last mile when the product is delivered to the customer’s door.

The new Amazon center in Naples is considered a “last mile” distributor, as orders are being prepared for final delivery to customers. In other words, Amazon’s delivery stations are the last stop before an order is delivered to customers’ doors.

To enable fast, daily shipping, Amazon concludes contracts with a large number of third-party delivery service providers or DSPs. Naples-based SEI Logistics began a partnership with Amazon in 2019 to offer middle and last mile shipping. SEI and other DSPs such as AAA Consulting & Logistics LLC of Fort Myers and Moore & Moore Logistics of Cooper City have advertised online for drivers serving the new Naples location.

“Drive an Amazon van to deliver last mile packages to our customers. Work independently by using an included mobile device to get route information, read delivery instructions, and scan packages. Get moving in this active job, ”said one of the advertisements.

Drivers use Amazon brand vehicles to deliver 200 to 250 parcels a day. Applicants must be 21 years or older, have a valid Florida driver’s license, and be able to move boxes up to 50 pounds. You can expect to work up to 10 hours a day, four to five days a week.

“You will be a delivery hero in the neighborhoods you serve, giving customers hundreds of smiles every day in the form of critical supplies, housewares, toys and more,” promises another ad.

According to the map, a parking lot directly in front of the new delivery station offers 172 standard spaces for employees and 166 11 by 27 foot spaces for delivery vans. The sprawling warehouse isn’t the only building planned on Amazon’s property.

The site development plan shows the floor plan for a future 3,400 square foot retail building proposed near the Davis Boulevard entrance. Amazon has experimented with a few different physical retail stores that are open to the public. For example, Amazon 4-star stores sell new and trendy items, especially those that have been rated with at least “four stars” on the Amazon website. |
