Suspects drove across the state from Miami during their crime

Eddie Young, 43, Francisco Minaya, Jr., 43, and Juan Ortiz, 29, have each been charged with aggravated theft, a conspiracy to commit a major theft, two cases of break into an unoccupied building, and two charges of major theft of the motor vehicle .

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – FDLE agents, with assistance from the Miami-Dade Police Department and the Florida Department of Corrections Probation and Parole, arrested three Miami suspects on charges of copper wire theft.

Agents believe the suspects drove across the state from Miami several times to commit their crimes.

Eddie Young, 43, Francisco Minaya, Jr., 43, and Juan Ortiz, 29, have each been charged with aggravated theft, a conspiracy to commit a major theft, two cases of break into an unoccupied building, and two charges of major theft of the motor vehicle .

FDLE Orlando’s investigation into multiple copper wire thefts began in December 2018 at the request of the Daytona Beach Police Department, Melbourne Police Department, West Melbourne Police Department, Orlando Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation found that numerous copper wire thefts occurred across the entire Florida peninsula, from Duval to Miami-Dade counties, between August 2017 and January 2018.

The suspects are believed to be responsible for stealing approximately $ 2.5 million worth of copper wire, as well as various tools, supplies and commercial vans that were used to transport the stolen items.

Young, Minaya, and Ortiz were arrested on July 19 and booked into Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation. The prosecution is pursuing the case.
