South Florida continues to support Cuba protests with rallies in Miami, Washington DC - NBC 6 South Florida

A number of events are taking place in South Florida this weekend with residents continuing to support the protests in Cuba.

A rally for Cuba will take place in the Freedom Tower on Biscayne Boulevard on Saturday, July 17th, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Several artists will perform at this rally to raise their voices and show solidarity with the Cuban people who are fighting for freedom on the island.

It should be noted that this will not be a concert but a demonstration in support of the movement.

The Freedom Tower was a symbol of hope and freedom in Miami for many immigrants who once sought citizenship in South Florida.

“You will see pictures that we have had access to from people in Cuba,” he said. “You will hear voice memos from people in Cuba speaking directly to the exile community, to the international community and all of their brothers and sisters out here – whoever echoes their call for freedom.”

The organizers encourage all members of the Miami community to join.

On Sunday, July 18th, members of the community organize the Cuba march “Estamos Contigo”.

The event begins at 4:00 p.m. at the Jose Marti Memorial on 861 SW 13th Avenue in Miami and attendees will head to the Little Havana mural.

The organizers ask participants to wear white and bring their Cuban flags, posters and banners.

And nearly 300 people boarded buses at Grapeland Park on Friday and drove to Washington, DC to take a “declaration of love” for the cause of Cuban freedom.

Once in Washington DC, protesters plan to arrive at the Cuban embassy, gather with other Cuban-American protesters from across the country, and then move to the White House that afternoon.
