MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami police force are not hiring, at least not since a flood of job applicants forced them to shut down the process within hours. The reason? Possibly because of the cult of the departments on social media.
“Had a DJ upstairs, like an Ultra [Music Festival] feel on top of the world, on the building and include that, Vice City, Grand Theft Auto driving, you know our target audience will be this era, ”said Miami Police Officer Nick Perez.

Officer Perez shares his latest production and heads the social media unit. He knows that police operations across the country have been suspended, so he had work for him.
“For example, one of the VLOGs Nick danced at was dancing in the middle of Wynwood at the time, he wasn’t a cop, he was human,” said Officer Alexander Duarte.
Duarte has just graduated from the academy. Before applying, he looked at many agencies and Miami’s social media helped win his favor. He’s not the only one.
“I remembered doing various vlogs over the past 2 to 3 years and thought wow I would like to be in this position,” said Officer Paul Scott.

Youtube even recognized Miami PD for surpassing hundreds of thousands of views on its video channel, so it was no surprise that the latest recruiting video became a hit.
“This is the fastest we’ve ever closed,” said Perez.
There were 1,000 applications in hours when the process opened last month. It usually takes weeks. Meanwhile, other police departments became aware of this, and some reached out to social media for advice.
“All over the country it looks like there is a little turmoil in police relations, so luckily we have a great relationship with our community,” said Perez.
The idea was just to highlight the relationship with the community but to talk to real people.

“I used to be a DJ, I’ve always had a thing for videography making videos and I had this opportunity and had to take it, so this was like a dream come true.”
