Local painters help others find the artist within
She’s right about Tampa Bay
NS. PETERSBURG, Florida. – Dometrice Lassiter’s house looks like a small art gallery.
“These pieces were actually hanging in the US embassy in Turkey and we are very happy that we can invest and have these pieces,” said Lassiter.
Her love for art began 29 years ago.
“Art is an inspiration,” she said. “It is a time of union. Art has no gender. It has no color.”
Lassiter is so drawn to art that she decided to help others enjoy it too.
“It’s so universal that I see art as a way to express yourself. So it’s a moving thing that happens to you when you love art, ”explained Lassiter.
In St. Petersburg she opened Painting with a Twist. They are easy-to-understand painting courses for groups and individuals to spread the healing powers of art.

“People who can’t paint but love art come to our studios and they can drink and paint and have fun, they can celebrate and they go home with a fantastic piece.”
An English major, Dometrice, originally taught the art of language and the power of the written word. Now she shares stories in a different way.
“You can tell stories by reading books and people can actually see things beyond what they read, and art is the same way.”
A way that brings people together to bring them closer to the healing power of art.
