Johnson’s resignation
What does Gail Johnson talk about when she railed against the city commission’s “majority vote”? She is the majority vote. I cannot think of any policy that she put forward that the Commission was not adopted.
She has just been commissioned to sue the governor over HB 1. She got her way to pay the black charter officers more. She created a whole office for race and justice. She pushed a $ 3 million grocery store on the east side. The office she created is responsible for all of $ 30 million of the COVID-19 money.
The only time she didn’t get what she wanted was trying to fire the city manager, and now she’s quit because of it. This is not leadership, this is a tantrum. I wish Johnson hadn’t quit, but if she can’t handle getting only 90% of what she wants, then public service is not for her. I supported her twice and now wish I hadn’t.

Afghanistan debacle
As a retired field service officer who worked in Afghanistan, I am glad that I am not in the field at this point in history. If I were in a foreign country, I’d have to walk around with my head down to avoid glances and awkward questions about Joe Biden’s terrible Afghanistan debacle.
I believe that most Americans can see that Biden is not a leader and does not have the sharpness of mind to lead the United States, let alone the free world. However, now I can see how smart he was in choosing Kamala Harris as his running mate. The thought of her taking over the presidency if Biden resigns or is charged is the only reason no loud demands are made on his head.
If Biden is charged, I hope he cleans up the house before he leaves. At the very least, he should demand letters of resignation from every member of the Joint Chiefs and all of his military advisors.

Downright dangerous
It’s sad and downright dangerous that Florida state universities don’t have the ability to charge masks on campus or at games.
The terrible leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis is leading to increased disease and death among our young people and leaves the door wide open for future mutations. He will not take responsibility for the dire consequences, but he will bear the shame for eternity.

Be proud to have been vaccinated
People have the right to refuse vaccinations, and the Florida governor has the right to endanger public health by making schools and universities illegal to require vaccinations. Every single person has the right to put their own preferences above the protection of others, and in particular those of the population in need of protection.
But what about the majority of us who educate ourselves, believe mostly in science, and take the risk and get sick for a day or two to protect our vulnerable populations, children, and neighbors? What rights do we have to protect ourselves from those who don’t care?
But there is a way to solve the problem: if everyone who is vaccinated wears a sticker that says “I am vaccinated” (which is less restrictive than a mask) – and if every doctor’s office asks its vaccinated staff to put a sticker to wear (and be sure it’s right) and gives patients the option of avoiding contact with a non-glued, possibly non-vaccinated person.
Be proud to have been vaccinated. Show it. Wear a sticker that says “I am vaccinated” and be ready to prove it
